Tepee Package
Tepees are the traditional homes of the Plains Indian tribes in North America. Comfortable even in extreme heat or cold, the tepee is a roomy self-supporting tent resembling the spiritually powerful shape of a pyramid. To the Plains Indians, the pitching, orientation and interior floor plan of the tepee reflect mystical as well as practical beliefs.
The tepee, at first glance, seems to be a simple shelter; yet, its design is actually highly sophisticated. Over the centuries, it evolved among nomadic tribes whose sustenance depended on their ability to follow the roving herds of buffalo.
The tepee is extremely stable in high winds, offers better ventilation than most tents, stays warm in winter and cool in summer. In addition, it is one of only two portable shelters that is safe to build a fire inside. Some have described the tepee as a great chimney- a well-pitched tepee is never smoky inside, thanks to its design.
Our Tepees provide a unique well ventilated room of 175 (sq:)ft. (16 (sq:) mtrs.) and are made from heavy duty cotton-polyester fabric. The fabric used is treated for water-proofing with 100% pure bee wax. Each tepee is individually manufactured under our women empowerment project and can be modified according to your wishes regarding location, decorations, windows, interior design, and paintings. Our tepee covers and doors are decorated with tribal designs and bright coloured, hand-stitched zig-zag. Each tepee is a unique piece.
Our tepees come as a full package including tepee cover, door, net liner, stakes, rope, lacing pins, and a storage sack.
For poles we suggest that you organise them yourself in your home country since transportation is difficult and the poles are prone to get damaged on the way. In India, we use sustainable bamboo poles for our tepees. Depending on your home country, pine poles may be a more suitable alternative. Together with your tepee package, you will receive instructions on the required number and size of the poles and how to put up your tepee.
